Training for Real Estate Professionals
E-Star offers training for real estate professionals interested in
learning about energy-efficient homes and how to leverage the value
of these homes to the benefit of homebuyers. The course, the E-Star
High Performance Home for Realtors is approved for two credits
of continuing education through the Colorado Real Estate Board. Realtors
taking this seminar have an outstanding opportunity to increase their
understanding of building science, durability issues (such as mold),
proper bulk water management techniques, vapor management, energy efficiency,
and much, much more. A schedule
of the seminars is available in the Announcements and Events section
of the E-Star Web site. The cost of the seminar is just $25.00 (or $20.00
if two or more participants attend from the same company) and includes
a catered lunch.

The following instructors
take turns teaching the E-Star High Performance Home for Realtors. Each
is a highly respected individual in the building science field and has
years of experience working with professionals in the real estate industry.
Mark LaLiberte teaches, consults and speaks to over 7,000 builders, architects and consumers each year. His primary focus is on energy-efficient construction practices and systems approach building. Mark conducts presentations for the Energy and Environmental Building Association (EEBA), Affordable Comfort, and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Andersen Windows & Doors, 3M, Xcel Energy, Lincoln Electric System, Nebraska Public Power, Tucson Electric, and Southwest Gas. Topics on which Mark lectures include: energy efficiency, airtight construction practices and techniques, indoor air quality problems and solutions, ventilation system design, building pressure regimes, building durability, and the marketing of high-performance homes and buildings.
Recognized as one of the leading experts in the whole-house systems approach to building and maintaining a home, Mark has spoken at such noteworthy events as the:

Rich Moore has given training seminars in the field of residential energy conservation since 1984. He has presented at numerous regional and national conferences, including those hosted by Affordable Comfort, the Energy and Environmental Building Association (EEBA), and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization program in Atlanta, Oklahoma City, and Phoenix. In Colorado, he served as a trainer and Training Center Coordinator for the Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation (OEMC) weatherization program. Rich has given other Colorado based seminars for E-Star Colorado™, the Denver Metro Home Builders Association (HBA), Built Green, and the Colorado Energy Sciences Center (CESC). Rich has also provided training for the Proctor Engineering Group in San Rafael, California by instructing Southern California heating contractors on matters of combustion safety and duct leakage. Rich provided a similar education program for New York state based contractors through the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA). Presentations given by Rich have covered all areas of home construction, performance, and health and safety including, but not limited to: construction materials selection and installation, furnace sizing, installation and maintenance, combustion safety, heating system electrical controls, insulation, and performance testing.

Goal: The student will understand the causes and effects of moisture related problems, learn how to detect water damage, and be able to articulate high-performance home construction techniques that effectively manage moisture within a home. The student will also learn how appropriate ventilation methods can markedly improve indoor air quality.

Goal: The student will understand construction techniques that provide optimal levels of insulation and energy efficiency. The student will also learn how to identify and gauge the energy related performance of space and water heating appliance and cooling equipment. The student will be able to verbally communicate the benefits of ENERGY STAR appliances including washing machines, dishwashers, and compact fluorescent lighting.

Goal: The student will incorporate building science considerations into his or her sales presentations and be able to sell a home on the basis of energy efficiency, durability, and health and safety.
